Panda Bear’s Posts

A couple of days ago Mommy pulled out her Rectangular Box With Zippers and started throwing clothes inside.  She talked to us about how she would miss us and would be back soon.  She said she was visiting our gramma and grampa in Pennsylvanicat for grampa’s birthday and Russian Christmas which sounded like fun, but she said we couldn’t go along.

Mommy took the Rectangular Box With Zippers out the front door.  I tried to go out the door when she did, but she pushed me back inside, said “bye, bye” and then closed the door.  I was very sad about this until Meerkat started chasing me and then I forgot all about it.

Daddy came home a little later in the day and was happy to see us.  I wasn’t sure he knew Mommy had packed up her Rectangular Box With Zippers, but then he said we have a “swinging bachelor pad”, and that we would be “batching it” with him for the night until Mommy came back.

Daddy made us a special dish of Stinky Goodness and then I fell asleep on Mommy’s chair in the eating room.

I don’t know how long I sleeped, but when I woke up, all the lights were off and the door to Mommy and Daddy’s sleeping room was closed.  I heard Daddy snoring and I tried scratching the door to get in, but he didn’t open the door.

It wasn’t much of a “swinging bachelor pad” if you ask me.

The next morning Mommy wasn’t around, but Daddy fed us like usual and snuggled us.  Then we went to sleep.  Mommy came in the door later in the day.  Yay!  She came back!  She had the Rectangular Box With Zippers, plus some other boxes and she hugged us and petted us and snuggled us and said how happy she was to see us and that she “missed us so much”.

So naturally we have been following Mommy around to make sure she doesn’t make another such disappearance. She and Daddy have gone to “work” but they come home together, so that is OK. Mommy explained that they have to visit a place called “work” so that they have green papers to trade at the store for our stinky goodness.

But we have been hot on her trail while she is at home…

So far there is an extremely high correlation between Mom and Dad using the Rug-Sucking Monster and then visitors showing up. So we should have expected that after Mom and Dad dragged the Rug-Sucking Monster all over the downstairs yesterday morning, that we would be having visitors soon.

Mommy also gave us our pedicures yesterday morning. Daddy and Mommy put more of the Christmas nail cover thingys on Meerkat’s and my toe nails, to replace the ones that we managed to remove that fell off all by themselves.

Around lunch time yesterday, Mom and Dad went out. When they came back, they brought some visitors with them: Miss Edie, Mr. Scott, and their Sticky Little People, David and Jane.

Mr. Scott introduces me to Little Jane

Now, I have read about Sticky Little People on other cats’ blogs. So, I was a bit nervous about meeting them in person. I did not want them petting me funny or grabbing my tail. I was also a bit miffed that Mom and Dad did not consult The Furry Bambinos before permitting the Sticky Little People into the house for a visit.

I kept my distance from the Sticky Little Girl

Anyway, the Sticky Little People freaked me out initially. David walked around on his hind legs, and Jane sometimes walked on her hind legs, and sometimes on all fours. Jane was very interested in our water fountain and food dishes, but Miss Edie and Mr. Scott kept an eye on Jane and didn’t let her steal any of our food or water.

Padre sidesteps the Sticky Little Girl

After awhile, David decided to play with us. He took the neato pink boa feather toy and waved it around and ran around and laughed and squealed a lot. It was fun to chase David and the neato pink boa feather toy. David sure knows how to play!! And he doesn’t get tired as quickly as Daddy and Mommy do.

Young David teases me with the boa feather

Apparently, there is a cat-kitty named Fiowwwwnnnnna who lives with David, so I guess that is why he was so good at playing with us. Meerkat and I had a great time chasing the neato pink boa feather toy, and Padre even got into it too.

Meerkat catches the boa from Young David

When it was time for them to leave, David was having such a good time that he had to be carried out of the house, while kicking and screaming that he wanted to stay.

Padre, Meerkat, and I were worn out by the time Mr. Scott, Miss Edie, David, and Jane left. Mommy fed us our supper, and then I curled up in a ball on Mommy’s chair and went to sleep! Meerkat and Padre took power cat naps too.

For Sticky Little People, I have to say that I was totally and pleasantly surprised at how much fun they could be. Mr. Scott and Miss Edie must be very good human parents. If David and Jane are as much fun as they were yesterday, then they can come back anytime for more play dates!

Wow!!!

Check this out:

Mom and Dad left us alone Saturday night, and at first I thought it was because I had woken them up so early. Apparently they went to visit Mom’s family in Pennsylvanicat for Saturday and came back home on Sunday.

Well, Monday was Christmas Eve, and I was seriously doubting if we would get to have a Christmas tree. I had seen such beautiful looking Christmas trees on other cats’ blogs, but it looked like it wasn’t going to happen for us here.

But then! Daddy went to the basement and dragged up these huge plastic tubs and began putting pieces together. Naturally, Padre and I offered to help:

Padre and Panda chew the tree

Meerkat chose to catch up on her napping, so she didn’t get to see it until Daddy and Mommy finished putting it together:

It is so cool!! Look how high I can climb in it!!

Panda Bear goes climbing

Daddy got a closeup picture of me, too!

Panda in the branches!

Mommy and Daddy said something about being “glad they didn’t put ornaments on the tree this year”.  I think it was a slight against me because I think they mean the dangling things that I like to play with.  Daddy’s mommy gave us some ringy-dingy dangling things for the tree.  Daddy put them way up high in the tree so the tree goes “ringy-dingy, ringy-dingy” when Meerkat and I go climbing.  We like to try to bat the ringy-dingy objects.

We LOVE this new cat toy!  Best of all, it take up lots of space in the room and it’s all ours!

What’s the big deal with weekends anyway?

I overheard Mom and Dad discussing banishing us from their sleeping room on weekends. Something about needing to “sleep in”.

I take my responsibility as being the furry alarm clock very seriously. This morning (as well as the past few weekends) I have been concerned that Mom and Dad would be late feeding us, as well as late going to wherever it is that they go. So, I turned up the ol’ purr motor and began purring intently to wake them up.

This morning it was about 5:15 am, a perfectly good time to start the day, so I climbed up on Mom’s pillows behind her head and turned on the purr motor… to eleven… just to make sure she would hear me. Mom and Dad both woke up, and then Dad pretended like he was getting up, so I followed him to the human litter box room. Next thing you know, Dad raced back into the sleeping room and forgot me out in the hall. Hmmph. Now they are talking about banishing us from their sleeping room on weekends. Sigh. Don’t they know I have their best interests in mind?

We had a blizzard here in Cleveland on Sunday!  It was so much fun to watch the snow falling and blowing around.  Then, we went out to play in the snow with Mom and Dad!  The five of us had a great snowball fight!  Meerkat got to dump snow on Mommy!  They hit me good, but I was able to bounce back and nail Daddy real good.

Mom says that I have a very loud purr motor.

I replied, “My purr motor is very special because it goes up to eleven.  See, most cats have purr motors that go up to ten, but mine goes up to eleven.”

Mom asked me, “Does that mean it’s louder?  Is it any louder?”

“Well,” I replied, “it’s one louder.  It’s not ten.”

“See, most cats would be purring at ten.  You’re on ten, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you’re on ten, purring on someone’s lap, and where can you go from there?  Where?”

“I dunno.” Mom said.

“Nowhere!  Exactly!  See, if I need to get my purr motor to make that extra push over the cliff, I can put my purr motor up to eleven.”

Mom asked me, “Why don’t you just make ten on your purr motor louder, and make ten be the top number on the purr motor, and make that a little louder?”

She clearly doesn’t get it.

“My purr motor goes to eleven.”

I tell you, every day I discover more cat toys around the house.  There are some really cool things to play with here.  So today I thought that I would share with you some of the toys that I have found recently.

This is one of my favorite “Non-Traditional” cat toys.  I have posted this photo previously, but for sheer pleasure as well as the potential to drive your humans nuts, batting around the dangly lamp pull-chain is second to none.

Panda Bear swatting the lamp cord

I discovered this next one entirely by accident.  Meerkat and I were wrassling on the stairs one day when we banged into this thing hanging on the wall.  These dangly chimey things make beautiful music if you bat them just the right way.  And they are pretty and shiny, too.  This is a photo of Meerkat playing with the wall chimey things.  I am on the floor looking up at Meerkat playing with the wall chimey thing.

Meerkat rings the doorbell

This next cat toy makes lots of noise.  I discovered this one a few weeks ago at about 4:00 am.  I immediately showed Meerkat how to play with it.  She even has developed her own technique of biting the big tall spokey things on legs.

This next one is also dangly (do you notice a theme here?), but this one is soft unlike the last one, which is hard to the touch and bite.

Dangling Tassles!

And my new very most favorite game to play with Dad is The Closet Game.  Whenever Dad goes upstairs, there is a fairly high likelihood that he will open the door to his closet in the human sleeping room.  Once the door is opened, I run in!  Woo-hoo!!  I love to sit on the floor of Daddy’s closet!!!  (Does this make me a closet closet lover?  Hmmm, probably not, since I just told all of you about it.)

Panda Bear in the closet

After awhile, Daddy takes out this magical snake thing that he calls a “belt”.   Daddy can make the magical snake thingy dance and play.  I run out of Daddy’s closet to play with the “belt” and then Daddy puts the magical snake belt thingy away for next time.

This last one is Mom’s tea mug and spoon that I discovered on the table the other day.  When you clink the spoon inside the mug, it makes a very pretty sound.

There are so many cool non-traditional cat toys to play with here!!
