over the weekend, our friends maggy and zoey (and their mom) from zoolatry sended me this family portrait!!! looky!!! here i am with my long lost relatives in the kalahari desert! wow, what a thoughtful gift! i am so thrilled to receive such a fantastic portrait!

thanks, zoolatry!!!

Meerkat Family Portrait from Zoolatry

you can see how well my furs blend in with the desert landscape. mommy and daddy named me meerkat because of the color of my furs, and because of the sounds i make. i don’t really meow, i prefer to make chirpy and trilly sounds. when i was a kitten, i had a really long tail compared to the size of my body, and i like to run with it straight up, like meerkats doing their war dance. my tail is still especially long, and is very useful for whapping. 🙂

(i am still learning how to stand on my hind legs. it takes lotsa practice.)

a little while ago, i was tagged by the nice kitties at meaouwy troops for the middle name meme. i thought it would be appropriate to post my meme with my family portrait.

Here are the rules:
1. You have to post the rules before you give your answers.

2. You must list one fact about yourself beginning with each letter of your middle name. (If you don’t have a middle name, use your maiden name or your mother’s maiden name).

3. At the end of your blog post, you need to tag one person (or blogger of another species) for each letter of your middle name. (Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they’ve been tagged.)

i haven’t been given an “official” middle name, but daddy and mommy call me “meerkat girl” often, so i decided to use girl for my middle name meme.

g: great, gentle, gorgeous

i: intelligent, incredible, internet-savvy 🙂

r: reserved, rambunctious, regal (hey, they don’t call me “queen of the kalahari” for nothing)

l: lady, loving, lovable

so now i need to tag some friends. i tag:

sophiekitty
adan, lego, & michico

and if my brothers want to play, i tag panda bear and padre. (mom made me do this. sigh.)

thanks for tagging me, meaouwy troops!

Well, our snow has finally all meltified! (Unlike Millie who still has some snow in New Hampster.) And there are tasty-looking birdies chirping outisde! And there are even some dainty-looking flowers that are starting to grow. So maybe Spring is finally here in O Hi O (as Parker would say)!

See, here is some evidence. The yellow flowers are crocuses, and the green thing may be a hyacinth (it’s hard to tell now):

Crocus pops up!

This weekend, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and it felt warm for the first time in a really long time! Daddy and Mommy opened the windows for us to get a good sniff.

Looking out on the world

Luckily, there is one window pane for each of us.

One window for each of us!

On Saturday and Sunday, Mommy took us outside into the back yard. We are not allowed to go outside unless we are on our harnesses and leashes, and Mommy or Daddy has to be with us at all times. I enjoyed sitting on the back porch, taking in the sights, sounds, and aromas.

Outside in the fresh air!

Our harnesses feel kinda funny, so when we got outside, we just kinda sat still and sniffed.

Gotta start working on my tan!

We did get to listen to the birdies and see them flying around, so we had a great time!

Aaaah! Take this thing off me! Let me back inside! Help!

Except for Meerkat, who seemed to be a little bit anxious the whole time. The look on her face and the position of her ears says it all… “Let me back inside!”

Here at Casa Cabán, Mom and Dad have what they call a “Wildlife Sanctuary” in the back yard. There are lots of animals to observe! Today, I thought I would introduce you to some of the animals we like to study.

Mom and Dad feed the birdies and squirrels. Mom and Dad put up this gate when they open the door to feed them. So, we get as close to the gate as we can. Here, we are on “Squirrel Patrol”.

Squirrel patrol!

Here is an opossum, AKA possum, on our back porch:

Our Pal Possum!

Mom thinks he’s cute. She says “he is one of God’s creatures after all”. We think he is kinda scary looking. And he’s bigger than us, so we’re keeping our distance.

Uh-oh! Possum can smell that we

This is a squirrel watching me watch him:

The squirrell is spying on us!

This is a different squirrel taking a bath while standing on a fence post. Impressive balance!

Squirrel has to bathe, too!

These are butterflies in the back corner of the yard, where Mom and Dad planted daffodils:

Butterflies!

I hope you enjoyed your tour of the Wildlife Sanctuary at Casa Cabán!

last weekend mommy and daddy visited one of their favorite cat supply stores called “coventry cats“. it is in cleveland heights, ohio, on this hippie street called coventry.

mommy had seen that other kitties in the blogosphere have the catnip bananer, and have raved about it. so when she saw that there were catnip bananers for sale at coventry cats, she got us one. operative word being “one”.

mommy and daddy let padre sniff it first. well, of course, panda bear and i had to investigate this new toy, too.

Sniffing the magical banana

that’s when padre got, uh, shall we say, “overprotective” and downright possessive of the catnip bananer. well, i wasn’t going to take that sitting down, nosirree. so i let padre have it!

How dare you take MY banana! It

when panda bear tried to take the bananer from padre, the two of them also got into a spat:

Go ahead … grab the banana … make my day

who knew padre, of all cats, would be such a mean drunk?

It

eventually mommy and daddy took the bananer away from us and putted it way up high on a bookcase. harrumph!

Mom Here: Have any of you kitties in the blogosphere had a similar reaction to the catnip in the “Nip Banana”? Maybe we just found a really potent one. The Bambinos have gotten worked up over other catnip toys, but this nip bananer brought out the worst in all of them!

today i will be writing about my fashion modeling debut!

normally, i do not like to wear clothes. since i already have a fur coat of many colors, i need to be careful that the clothes do not clash with my furs. today, i am wearing a cute orange tee shirt that complements my brown and gold furs nicely.

Modeling my new outfit

since i consider myself to be the main mouser here at casa cabán, the message on the back is purrfect!

The message says it all …

this shirt is difficult to walk in because it is a little bit too big. i am still a growing kitten, so mommy hopes that it will fit me better one day.

Okay, it is a little big.

panda bear decided to horn in on my modeling shoot. as you can clearly see, he is a mere amateur at modeling.

Panda Bear tries it on for size!

this shirt clearly looks much better on me! and i got several temptayshuns for my work!

Hoomph!

Mom and Dad have recently been calling us “The Fussy Bambinos” instead of “The Furry Bambinos”.

Something about us being too picky at meal time.

We told them that it’s in the Cat Code of Ethics to be as fussy as we wanna be, but they don’t want to hear it. Well, they can just sniff my butt!

Now Mom has created a chart for the kitchen bulletin board to record our likes and dislikes. This is what it looks like:

The Fussy Bambinos Chart

Mommy started her dopey chart today. I maintain that of The Furry Bambinos, I am the least picky. Meerkat and Padre sometimes turn up their noses at the stinky goodness, but usually not me!

Mom Here: We don’t know when Padre’s birthday is, not even what year he was born.  When we adopted Padre (and Panda Bear and Meerkat) six months ago, Padre’s age was estimated at between four and five years.  So I chose today, six months from their adoption day, to celebrate Padre’s birthday. It seems appropriate to celebrate Padre’s birthday on Earth Day. Happy Earth Day everyone!

Now, I’ll hand things over to the Birthday Boy.

Contemplating the day ahead

Hi Efurrybody! Padre here. As Mom said, today we are celebrating my birthday! So teleport on over. Both Mom and Dad have to leave for “work”, so there will be plenty of fun without them butting in! I’ll do my best serving up the niptinis, or if you prefer your nip in pure form, we’ve got that too! We’ve got lots of windows to study the birdies and squirrels from.

We also have lots of great napping spots, like this one on the sofa in the living room.

All cushy and soft!

Or this comfy cat bed next to the sofa:

In Clyde

If you get sleepy watching the birdies out the back window, you can always take a nap here:

Sleeping Soundly on the Sofa

Or for some warmth and comfort, this cat bed is in the Mohawk and Clyde Shrine (bedroom where Mom’s computer is), and situated right next to the heat vent:

Sleep now, play later

We have two sets of stairs, for playing Thundering Herds of Elephants!

Up the down staircase

I am putting Panda Bear on Parent Patrol, so he can let us know when Mom and Dad pull in the driveway after work.

"Neighborhood Watch" Captain

Mom said that they will give me my presents after they get home from work, so I’ll post tomorrow with photos!
