… There is a sign of spring …

Panda Bear playing in the snow!

… But there is no sign of spring here in Northeast Ohio!

Meerkat sniffs the snow!

OK. The picture of the kitty on the wall with all the little blocks says that today is March 1st. We still have lots and lots of snow here! Mommy says that the snow the other day reminded her of some guy named Dr. Zhivago. I don’t get humans sometimes. Why would snow make her think of a V-E-T?

A few days ago, Mommy opened the back door to throw peace offerings to the big fat beaver squirrels, and to the tiny little snowbirds, and to the bluejays. Mmmmm, blue jays, now I’m getting hungry just telling you this story. Anyway, I got to sniff and eat and play in the snow a little bit. Then Mommy picked me up by the scruff of my neck and hauled me back inside.

Next, Meerkat got to sniff and eat and play in the snow for a little while, and then Mommy grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and hauled her back inside too.

We had a great time! Mommy said that the snow was too cold and too deep for us to play in, but it sure was fun while it lasted!! 🙂

Can you believe it? Last week The Furry Bambinos had the great fortune of getting to hunt three mousies in the same night!!

It all started after dinner. We could tell that there was a mousie in the basement, so we surrounded it, and I brought it upstairs to the fambly room where we like to play with them.

Panda Bear pins down the mouse!

We roughed the mousie up a little bit before Mom and Dad took the mousie away from us. They released it out the back door.

Within 5 minutes, Meerkat had caught a second mousie and ran upstairs from the basement at top speed. She took the mousie into the fambly room, where we proceeded to play with it. We roughed the second mousie up, too.

“Another mouse?” Dad exclaimed. “Do you think it’s the same one we just put outside? He looks kind of sluggish.”

“Who knows?” Mom answered. “Maybe we should start tagging them.”

Mom and Dad took the second mousie away from us, capturing it in the mousie catcher.

They released it out the back door.

Then, the three of us Furry Bambinos headed to the basement where we surrounded the third mousie. This one took a little longer to ferret out from its hidey spot under one of the big white machines. I caught it, and all three of us raced back upstairs to the fambly room for the playing.

Panda Bear tags the mouse!

Mom and Dad took the third mousie away from us. This one was real easy for them to catch, because he wasn’t running very much. This time, they released it out the front door.

Mom and Dad were wondering if we had three dumb mice, or the same really really STUPID mousie.

The Furry Bambinos will never tell! 🙂

Awhile ago, Kelly Cat (from It’s All Good) tagged us for The Message in a Bottle Meme. It took Mommy a little while to figure out the technical aspects of this meme, so we apologize for the delay in posting. (You’d think that someone who works with computers and databases and stuff would be able to handle this simple request… Sigh.)

Mom Here: On Tuesday, March 4, we got an ice storm, followed by a few inches of snow that covered the ice. Then we got the big snow storm last weekend (on March 7-8). The news reporters were calling it “The Storm of the Season”. The Weather Channel even paid some idiot a trained meteorologist to stand outside at East Ninth and Carnegie all day during the blizzard. It was as if he was reporting each snowflake as it fell.

We live in one of the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, on the southern shores of Lake Erie.  We live in the “snow belt” which means that when there is “lake effect” snow, we get lots. Last year at Easter, we got about 30 inches of lake effect snow. Lake effect snow occurs when cooler air blows across warmer water and picks up moisture. The moisture then falls as snow when the air rises over land.

However, the snow that we got last weekend was not lake effect snow. Lake Erie is mostly frozen over now, and the snow came from the south. Other Ohio cities, such as Cincinnati and Columbus, also got record amounts of snow. Unlike our neighbors to the south, communities in the Cleveland area have large fleets of snow removal equipment. Within a day of the snow stopping, things were pretty much back to normal. However, in parking lots, there continue to be residual MOUNDS of snow, six or more feet deep, where the snow was plowed to make room to park cars.

Panda Bear Here:
Last weekend, we gots lots and lots of snow. Here at Casa Caban, we got about two feets of snow by the time the it stopped snowing late Saturday night. Mommy and Daddy stayed inside most of the day and played with us! Twice, they opened the front door and let us walk around on the front porch.

Panda Bear Steps Out into the Snow!

It was so much fun! I dug in the snow, and bit it and ate some of it.

Digging in the Snow!

I enjoyed myself very much. Here I am taking a leisurely stroll on the porch.

A stroll in the snow

It took Mom and Dad many, many hours to dig out the driveway and the-room-that-moves. It became the-room-that-doesn’t-move. This is what it looked like before they started digging. It’s almost invisibubble:

Over 22 inches of snow!

Mommy said that she could not lift her arms above her shoulders for the rest of the week. We think that she is a wuss. 🙂

Of course, Mommy made sure to feed the beaver squirrels and the birds (the ones that did not fly south, like the blue jays and snowbirds).

We enjoyed watching the blue jays and squirrels out the big tall windows. Do you like our stalking technique? The snow was so deep that we could use it to hide behind, so the blue jay wouldn’t see us.

Bambinos on Bird Patrol!

Even though it was fun to play in the snow, we are very grateful to be indoor kitties! See how deep the snow was?

Snow piled high around us!

These are my footy prints in the snow:

Footy Prints!

OK. The snow was fun. But it can go away now. When will Spring get here?! Mom keeps saying that she is “OVER the snow already”.

every morning, mommy or daddy feeds the outdoor animals like the birdies and the beaver squirrels. we call them “beaver squirrels” because when aunt patty and her boyfriend chris were here to visit, aunt patty said that the squirrels were as big as beavers.

of course, us furry bambinos like to help mommy or daddy when they throw the food outside. we snoopervise and we perform qa checks of the peanuts and sunflower seeds.

we also like to sniff the outside air. it smells different than the inside air. in the winter time, the outside air is very cold. for some reason, mommy and daddy always put this gate thingy in front of the door when they feed the birdies.

Trapped from escaping!

but the outside air smells exciting!

Wait … there

one of these days, i’m gonna explore out there. for some reason, mommy and daddy always grab me and haul me back inside, just when i’m on the verge of escape!

It

but i think i’ll wait until it gets warmer. 🙂

have a happy easter efurryone!

on friday, mommy packed the rectangular box with zippers (that we like to use as a scratching post) and put it into the room that moves. mommy gave us lots of love shnugglies and darn near sucked all the fur off our heads giving us “kisses” (blech!) and “hugs”.

and then she left us all alone!

well, daddy did show up after awhile. but no mommy!

so we spent the weekend just with daddy. it was fun, but we still missed mommy.

luckily, mommy came home yesterday afternoon. she started in with the hugs and kisses all over again!

mommy explained that she was helping aunt patty shop for a special dress. mommy said that patty’s boyfriend chris loves aunt patty very much, and to show his love for her, he gave her a very special present.

he gave her a rock.

i just don’t get humans sometimes. why would a rock be a sign of love? some primo catnip, now that’s a sign of true love. but a rock?

mommy said that aunt patty’s rock is very pretty. and that they had a fun time shopping for the dress. they found a beautiful dress.

oh, and another thing. that when chris gave aunt patty the rock, that means that he isn’t her boyfriend anymore. now he’s called her “fee-yawn-say”. didn’t i tell you that humans are weird?
