What’s the big deal with weekends anyway?

I overheard Mom and Dad discussing banishing us from their sleeping room on weekends. Something about needing to “sleep in”.

I take my responsibility as being the furry alarm clock very seriously. This morning (as well as the past few weekends) I have been concerned that Mom and Dad would be late feeding us, as well as late going to wherever it is that they go. So, I turned up the ol’ purr motor and began purring intently to wake them up.

This morning it was about 5:15 am, a perfectly good time to start the day, so I climbed up on Mom’s pillows behind her head and turned on the purr motor… to eleven… just to make sure she would hear me. Mom and Dad both woke up, and then Dad pretended like he was getting up, so I followed him to the human litter box room. Next thing you know, Dad raced back into the sleeping room and forgot me out in the hall. Hmmph. Now they are talking about banishing us from their sleeping room on weekends. Sigh. Don’t they know I have their best interests in mind?

Hi efurryone! Padre here, and I am doing my very first meme! We got tagged by Tybalt the Prince of Cats and Tigger the F.B.I. Cat for the 7 Weird or Interesting Things about You Meme.

here are the meme rules:
* link to the cat who tagged you and post the rules on your blog
* share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself
* tag 7 random cats at the end of your post & include links to their blogs
* let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

1. I was adopted eight weeks ago into my permanent furrever home. I used to live with someone else, but they left me on the doorstep of a veterinarian’s office earlier this year. I wound up in kitty prison for awhile, although I did not do anything wrong. Then I got rescued from prison in the nick of time by a very nice lady who enrolled me in PetSmart college. I graduated from college and came to live here.

2. I love my Daddy and Mommy very much. I am so grateful to have such a nice furrever home here.  I especially LOVE when Mommy gives me baby food.  Yum, yum, yum, it is my very favorite treat!

3.  I don’t have claws on my front paws, but I do have claws on my back paws.

4.  I like to chatter at birds.

5.  I like to yodel.  I especially like to yodel at 2:00 am.  Apparently Clyde (one of the kitties who lived here before who is now at The Rainbow Bridge) also really really liked to yodel.  Since Clyde and I both are grey tabbies, Mom thinks that it is a “grey tabby thing” to yodel.  (Mom was wondering if there are other grey tabbies out there who also like to yodel?  She also wants to know if you yodel if you are not a grey tabby.)

6.  I was injured a long time ago … before I came to this wonderful furrever home.  The bones on my front right pinky toe have healed a little bit out of alignment.

7.  I do some of my best sleeping on Daddy’s lap!  I do not like to nap on Mommy’s lap.

Now, I need to tag some other kitties so that they can do this meme too.  I tag:

Kelly, Lizzie, Caitie, & Nicky from It’s all Good, Chance, and Rocky et al at Artsy Catsy.

We had a blizzard here in Cleveland on Sunday!  It was so much fun to watch the snow falling and blowing around.  Then, we went out to play in the snow with Mom and Dad!  The five of us had a great snowball fight!  Meerkat got to dump snow on Mommy!  They hit me good, but I was able to bounce back and nail Daddy real good.

Thanks to the folks over at JibJab.com, we’re able to bring you the video of what happened!  Just press the PLAY button below!

Mom says that I have a very loud purr motor.

I replied, “My purr motor is very special because it goes up to eleven.  See, most cats have purr motors that go up to ten, but mine goes up to eleven.”

Mom asked me, “Does that mean it’s louder?  Is it any louder?”

“Well,” I replied, “it’s one louder.  It’s not ten.”

“See, most cats would be purring at ten.  You’re on ten, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you’re on ten, purring on someone’s lap, and where can you go from there?  Where?”

“I dunno.” Mom said.

“Nowhere!  Exactly!  See, if I need to get my purr motor to make that extra push over the cliff, I can put my purr motor up to eleven.”

Mom asked me, “Why don’t you just make ten on your purr motor louder, and make ten be the top number on the purr motor, and make that a little louder?”

She clearly doesn’t get it.

“My purr motor goes to eleven.”

last weekend, mommy and daddy captured panda bear and me and gave us our pedicures.  we got temptations treats, so although i squirmed a lot and complained about it, the temptations almost made it all worthwhile.

however, mommy and daddy had a surprise in store for us: they put fancy nails over our now short claws on our front feets.  panda bear got to go first, and he was not very happy about getting his claws all covered up.  i kind of hung out nearby in case he wanted my moral support.

clearly, this was a mistake, i should have hidden!  the next thing i knew, i got picked up and daddy held onto me real tight while mommy put on the pretty red and green nail covers.  as i have mentioned before, i do not like to be held.  so the whole experience was not fun, even though i thought my claws looked pretty when mommy and daddy were finished.  mommy kept saying “it’s like trying to hold jello that hasn’t jelled yet”.  i dunno what she meant by that.  all i wanted was to get free of daddy’s firm grasp.

here is a photo of panda bear’s nail covers when they were first put on last weekend.  don’t the nail covers stand out nicely against panda bear’s white furs?

and here is a photo of mine, taken recently after i managed to remove some of the nail covers just fell off all by themselves:

so far, panda bear and i have managed to remove have had a combined total of 9 nail covers just fall off all by themselves. and to think that daddy and mommy were wondering how to get them off? however, i do think that they are festive and pretty, just not fun to get them put on.

I tell you, every day I discover more cat toys around the house.  There are some really cool things to play with here.  So today I thought that I would share with you some of the toys that I have found recently.

This is one of my favorite “Non-Traditional” cat toys.  I have posted this photo previously, but for sheer pleasure as well as the potential to drive your humans nuts, batting around the dangly lamp pull-chain is second to none.

Panda Bear swatting the lamp cord

I discovered this next one entirely by accident.  Meerkat and I were wrassling on the stairs one day when we banged into this thing hanging on the wall.  These dangly chimey things make beautiful music if you bat them just the right way.  And they are pretty and shiny, too.  This is a photo of Meerkat playing with the wall chimey things.  I am on the floor looking up at Meerkat playing with the wall chimey thing.

Meerkat rings the doorbell

This next cat toy makes lots of noise.  I discovered this one a few weeks ago at about 4:00 am.  I immediately showed Meerkat how to play with it.  She even has developed her own technique of biting the big tall spokey things on legs.

Fireplace Playtoy

This next one is also dangly (do you notice a theme here?), but this one is soft unlike the last one, which is hard to the touch and bite.

Dangling Tassles!

And my new very most favorite game to play with Dad is The Closet Game.  Whenever Dad goes upstairs, there is a fairly high likelihood that he will open the door to his closet in the human sleeping room.  Once the door is opened, I run in!  Woo-hoo!!  I love to sit on the floor of Daddy’s closet!!!  (Does this make me a closet closet lover?  Hmmm, probably not, since I just told all of you about it.)

Panda Bear in the closet

After awhile, Daddy takes out this magical snake thing that he calls a “belt”.   Daddy can make the magical snake thingy dance and play.  I run out of Daddy’s closet to play with the “belt” and then Daddy puts the magical snake belt thingy away for next time.

This last one is Mom’s tea mug and spoon that I discovered on the table the other day.  When you clink the spoon inside the mug, it makes a very pretty sound.

There are so many cool non-traditional cat toys to play with here!!

Mommy ordered us Gizzy Quilts as a special Christmas gift.  Mommy asked us what our color preferences were, and then she contacted Millie’s Mom, Lynne, about making the Gizzy Quilts.  For those of you who don’t know, Millie has her own blog, Darling Millie, which we love to read every day.  The quilts are named for Gizzy, Millie’s big brother, who went to The Rainbow Bridge earlier this year.  You can see other Gizzy Quilts that Millie’s Mom made at the Bizzy for Gizzy Quilts web site.  Millie’s Mom is furry talented indeed!

When the quilts arrived, of course Panda Bear and I had to sniff the box:

Not to be outdone, Meerkat also gave the box a thorough sniffing:

And then we had to sniff our quilts.  Here I am on my “Warm Cheery Blue” Gizzy Quilt:

And this is Meerkat on her “Brown and Beige Kalahari” Gizzy Quilt (note how well her quilt matches her furs):

And this is Panda Bear checking out his “Dark Brick Red” Gizzy Quilt.  Note how well Panda Bear’s quilt matches the curtains.  (You can see the curtains better in the picture of Meerkat on her quilt.)

Plus, here is a photo of Panda Bear on my “Warm Cheery Blue” Gizzy Quilt.  Apparently, Panda Bear is not particular about where he stretches out:

Obviously, I have some “educating” to do here!

The Gizzy Quilts are absolutely beautiful.  The photos do not do the quilts justice!  Plus, it was so much fun to get to choose exactly the colors that we wanted!  Thanks so much for creating such beautiful Gizzy Quilts for us, “Mom Lynne”!
